Sarah Nygren (she/her/hers) is the Clinical Services Director at the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center. Sarah is from Wauwatosa where she still currently resides. Sarah took this role within the Center because, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she recognizes the unique struggles faced by this population in regards to mental health difficulties, addiction concerns, and an underreported abundance of trauma. Access to resources for the LGBTQ+ population has always been a barrier, thus her passion to provide this population with this type of support. Sarah got her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater in 2009 with a double major in Psychology and Women’s Studies. She then took a break from school and went to work for the Wisconsin State Department of Corrections where she was a Correctional Officer at Racine Correctional Institution for 4 years and then a Correctional Sergeant at Ellsworth Correctional Center. She went back to school at Mount Mary University and graduated in 2019 with a Master's of Science in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and certification in Trauma. Sarah currently holds dual licensure in the State of Wisconsin as an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) and a SAC (Substance Abuse Counselor). Sarah enjoys spending time with her wife of 9 years, (who she met at Milwaukee Pridefest in 2012) stepson, and parents. Sarah is also an alumni of the Milwaukee Scylla Women’s Rugby team and was playing for them when they won a National Championship. Sarah likes going on random adventures with her wife, piercings, tattoo’s, her cats, and her registered emotional support bearded dragon.
