JACK H. SMITH LIBRARY

LIBRARY HOURS

Monday - Friday 10:00a - 6:00p

The Jack H. Smith Lending Library is one of the largest LGBT libraries in Wisconsin and encourages and facilitates the reading and research of LGBT literature. We have nearly 3,000 books all ranging from fiction, non-fiction, mysteries and more.

Our collection is organized into categories and is searchable online.

  • Psychology and Health

  • Sociology

  • History

  • Spirituality and Religion

  • Arts and Literature

  • Biography

  • Gay Fiction/Gay Mystery

  • Lesbian Fiction/Lesbian Mystery

  • Queer Fiction

  • Young Adult

Many of the non-fiction titles are also available through the Milwaukee Public Library system – but our fiction collections are truly unique. Outside of an LGBT bookstore like Outwords Bookstore, you will not find a more extensive collection of exclusively LGBT leisure reading in southeast Wisconsin.

Checkout is easy. Checkout slips are available in the library, and can be dropped off at the Front Desk. When you return the books, they also can be dropped off at the Front Desk. We do ask that you limit your selection to 5 books to provide maximum availability to other patrons, and checkout time is 3 weeks. The Library catalog can be found online by clicking here.

The library is community-created and community-supported. We accept donations of gently-used books, and if they are not added to the collection, they will be sold at a book sale to raise money for wish list titles, or made available to other nonprofits in our network.
