The boiling pots, steaming pans, and enticing aromas from Tuesday, April 8th cooking demonstration by chefs Erik Nillson and Dexter Tamondong at the Milwaukee Public Market kept our Mix n’ Mingle audience of more than 40 people highly entertained and—well—drooling to “taste the tropics,” the theme of the evening. Combining the unique ingredients and flavors of the Philippines, Guam, and other Asian countries, chefs Nillson and Tamondong presented a feast of four recipes for everyone to taste and that, as they demonstrated, anyone could easily cook at home. (These recipes will soon be on our website.) Add to the evening’s festivities good friend and great conversation, and folks at the event walked away asking for “another social night at the Market.” Rumor has it that another demonstration may happen next fall.
The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center would like to thank the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Johnson & Pabst LGBT Humanity Fund and Joe Pabst himself for supporting last night’s Mix n’ Mingle gathering, Jill Nickerson of the Milwaukee Public Market for providing us with a wonderful venue for the cooking demonstration, and, of course, Erik Nillson and Dexter Tamondong for their fascinating and easy-going presentation on Asian cooking…we haven’t seen the last of those boys yet!
Please consider joining us at our next Mix n’ Mingle event this summer!
