Anti-Violence Project

The Anti-Violence Project (AVP) of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center was established to address the impact of different forms of violence upon LGBT individuals and communities in Milwaukee. The main components of the AVP are:

  • Advocating for LGBT victims and survivors of violence,

  • Educating service providers on the unique needs and concerns of LGBT individuals who have experienced violence; and,

  • Educating LGBT-identified individuals and raising awareness about safety, violence, and violence prevention.

It is our hope that, as individuals and communities, LGBT people will learn to recognize, acknowledge and respond to violence and provide support for fellow community members.

VICTIM AND SURVIVOR ADVOCACY AND SERVICES

AVP offers confidential victim advocacy for LGBT victims of all types of crime and incidents of violence. The Program Coordinator II-Victim Outreach/Advocate works with a network of service providers in the Milwaukee area to assist LGBT victims of violence in accessing services and resources in a safe and understanding manner. Navigating systems such as law enforcement agencies, the District Attorney’s office, and medical services can be challenging. We are here to help! We support anyone who has experienced violence, harassment, bullying, or a violent crime perpetrated by strangers, friends, family members, neighbors, and partners.
AVP also provides outreach to LGBT community members, groups, and individuals as well as mainstream organizations and service providers seeking education and information about how violence affects LGBT individuals.
Those who are interested in learning more and becoming better equipped to provide safe services to LGBT individuals can contact AVP for training opportunities and presentations.
