This Center's Anti-Violence Project was established to address the impact of domestic abuse, sexual assault and hate crimes on LGBT people by:
- Educating service providers on the unique needs and concerns of LGBT people.
- Educating and raising awareness within LGBT communities
- Connecting victims with appropriate services.
These pages on the Center's website were created and are regularly updated to help LGBT people understand the dynamics of domestic abuse, sexual assault and hate crimes and locate appropriate resources.
It is our hope that, as individuals and communities, LGBT people will learn to recognize, acknowledge and respond to violence and provide support to victims.
Victim Outreach/Advocate
Beginning in November of 2005, thanks to a grant from the Department of Justice/ Victim of Crimes Act (VOCA), the AVP will expand its capacity to serve LGBT victims of crime. A newly hired Victim Outreach/Advocate will reach out to various LGBT communities to raise awareness and provide accurate information about violent crimes such as domestic abuse and sexual assault. In addition, the Advocate will work directly with LGBT victims by providing crisis intervention, help with safety planning, and connecting victims with resources.
