The Juana Gloria Vega Scholarship is named after the visionary Mexican-American,
out Lesbian and native of Milwaukee, who was brutally murdered on November 11, 2001
by her former girlfriend’s brother. The Juana Gloria Vega Scholarship was created
in collaboration with Milwaukee Area Technical College, where Juana was once a GED and
Culinary Arts Student, but due to personal & financial obstacles she was unable to
complete her studies.
This unique Scholarship awards Lesbian & Bisexual Latinas enrolled in MATC’s GED,
Diploma, Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree program at a Wisconsin College/University
the financial assistance in completing theirs.
The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, being a 501c3 agency, acts as the fiscal agent for the scholarship.
- Two-$250 Scholarships for Associate Degree & Bachelor’s Degree Students
- Two-$125 Scholarships for GED & Diploma Students
- Proof of enrollment or admission at MATC (all campuses) or any Wisconsin College or University
- Identify yourself as a Lesbian or Bisexual
- Are of Latina/Hispanic origin
- Three letters of recommendation of non-family members
- Financial Aid Award Letter (for Bachelor's, Associate & diploma students only)
