Frequently Asked Questions
These are the most common questions asked about the Center. Questions sent to the Center will be responded to below.
>> When was the Center established?

After a dedicated team evaluated the need for an LGBT Center in Milwaukee, the Center was opened with one Employee in 1998.
>> Aproximately how many people attend your programs?

There are about 5000 visitors to the LGBT center each year. Project Q, a program of the Center, reaches 600 youths a year.
>> How do I find a lesbian-friendly doctor?

It is possible to search the Information and Referral Directory online, at our homepage click on COMMUNITY RESOURCES in the upper right hand corner, then click on Physicians. If you wish to speak to our trained operators during operating hours, please call the Center at (414) 271-2656.
>> Is there a group that meets anywhere in Southeastern Wisconsin where gay/lesbians and their children can meet and interact?

There are many organizations that support LGBT families. Please see the next post for names and numbers. You may want to contact them to see if there are groups closer to your home.
>> Do you offer any support for gay dads? i came out 2 my wife 2 years ago.. still goin thru the divorce. I would love to talk to some guys that know what I'm going thru. Thanks for your time.

The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center doesn't run a gay dad's group, but you can call the Counseling Center of Milwaukee for General Gay Men's Support Groups, (414) 271-2565.

The LGBT Center's Information and Referral Directory is available online at www.mkelgbt.org, click on COMMUNITY RESOURCES in the upper right hand corner of homepage. You can also call and speak to a trained operator to make referrals for community resources in areas like mental health, physicians/health care, LGBT social groups, religion, sexual assault and domestic violence.
