David Bohnett CyberCenter Through a generous grant and hard working volunteers the CyberCenter was opened in July 2003. Visit the David Bohnett CyberCenter area for more details. LGBT Resource Directory and Information & Referral Line The Center maintains and regularly updates a resource directory which includes listings of LGBT-friendly service providers in the following categories:
Project Q Project Q is the Youth Program of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center. Project Q provides a safe space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth and their straight allies ages 24 and under. Visit the official Project Q site for more details. LGBT Anti-Violence Project The LGBT Anti-Violence Project was developed to address the impact of hate crimes, domestic violence and sexual assault on LGBT communities. The goals of this project are to:
Pamphlets and brochures related to same-sex domestic violence are available in the Center's lobby for individuals wanting more information on this issue and on services available. LGBT Community Library Over 2000 books are available through the Center's lending library. You are welcome to come in an browse during regular Center hours (Monday through Friday from 10am to 10pm and Saturday from 6pm to 10pm). After filling out an information card, books may be kept for 2 weeks. The LGBT Community Library contains only materials that are LGBT-themed or authored. We have a large collection of lesbian and gay fiction as well as nonfiction books in categories such as Sociology, Art, Health and Biography. There is also a separate Bisexuality and Transgender Section. In addition, The Lesbian Community Health Project maintains, within the Center's Library, a collection of resource materials, newsletters and books related to women's health issues. Speaker's Bureau The Center provides speakers to a wide variety of community organizations, agencies and businesses to help raise awareness of issues related to the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Staff and volunteers from the Center have presented at area schools and universities as well as at domestic violence organizations and local businesses. If you are interested in having someone from the Center do a presentation for your group or organization, contact the Center's Director of Programs at 414-271-2656. OutVote OutVote is the non-partisan voter mobilization project of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center. OutVote's mandate is to increase LGBT voter turnout in the city of Milwaukee through grassroots means by doing outreach with LGBT organizations and communities. Visit the OutVote area for more details. Many Men Many Voices Many Men Many Voices is a program targeting men who have sex with men in Communities of Color. A series of 6-week workshops are held for individuals who want to talk about HIV prevention/intervention. Johnny King, Project Coordinator: "These workshops will ehlp you get back the life you once were accustomed too by understanding and addressing the risks of Men of Color often take in life. They are not meant to change what you do, but rather help you keep yourself and others safe in all that you do!" LGBT "Kick Butt" Tobacco Control The Milwaukee City Health Department in collaboration with the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center wants to give you the information and resources to fight nicotine addiction. For most people this means quit smoking. Overcoming nicotine addiction can be very difficult, but with the right tools, the right mindset and with new combination therapies it is possible to live a life free of cigarettes and nicotine.
